Untimely death of Jay Bailey (aged 57) 25 May 2008.

Jay was the partner of Joanne Telfer in
the Western Isles and would undoubtedly have been a
strong and outspoken activist in her own right, had she
not suffered a stroke in 1998 which robbed her of speech. She loved music and horror films but more importantly, she loved people. She would always go out of her way, to lend a helping hand to anyone who was suffering from misfortune or injustice and often without fear of any negative personal consequences. Confined to a wheelchair in later days, she laughed and engaged with everyone she met and spread happiness in abundance. She was a people magnet and would surely have helped to build a stronger socialist following on these islands, had she been able to fully participate and express her opinions. Nevertheless she enjoyed a good quality of life, especially her trips to Stornoway and meeting friends at the Grianan day centre. She was highly popular and the short acute illness which finally overcame her zest for life and her tenacity, came as a shock to her many friends and acquaintances. |

.
Jay Jay, oh what a day it was when I met
you
We talked and clicked, we moved
so slick
To happy home for two
Jay Jay oh how you filled my life
with joy and pain
And now if given half a chance
Id live that life again
Jay Jay, with your appeal, how
quickly you transformed
A life with few and precious
friends
You turned into a swarm
Jay Jay, how sad a day that clots
attacked your brain
You rallied round and still you
found
Your joy of life again
Jay Jay, I need to say you taught
me how to love
Some love is felt below the waist
But ours was from above
Jay Jay, its empathy and
empathy so strong
That when you hurt then I hurt
too
Your happiness my song
Jay Jay, oh how you spread the
sunshine in your smile
You touched the hearts of
everyone
You met with unique style
