Megaphone Mischief?

Word has reached us here at DGS HQ of a highly successful demonstration in Glasgow on Valentines Day against the New Labour Council’s shameful attempts to close 25 primary schools and nurseries in the city.

Unity was the order of the day with parents and children from all the threatened sites vowing to stick together until all are saved.

Singing We Shall Not be Moved by New Labour, The Purcell  or The Council! (Steven Purcell is Council leader) and bringing lunch time traffic to a standstill in the city the demo was one of the brightest, colourful and most vibrant the city has seen in a while.

Pity the feeling of unity and togetherness did not stretch to allowing all of the speakers at the demo the use of a megaphone then!

We hear that the SSP’s Glasgow Organiser and Save Our Schools Spokesperson Richie Venton was less than keen to allow Solidarity Co-Convenor Tommy Sheridan the use of the aforementioned piece of equipment despite various appeals from parents in the crowd.

It seems that a great deal of persuasion was required to even allow the recently elected UNISON Branch Secretary in Glasgow, Brian Smith to give a message of support.

Luckily Tommy’s voice has never much needed the help of artificial enhancement and he delivered a well-received speech at the end of proceedings urging parents, children and communities to stick together and stay united to win.
